Signed by Andy Warhol

Truman CapoteHere is the Interview magazine signed by Andy Warhol. Really only the cover as the actual magazine was thrown out years ago. Don't tell me, I know, I should have taken better care of it. This was the January 1979 issue of Interview, with Truman Capote on the cover. Andy had a stack of them that he was signing and handing out to visitors to his show at the Heiner Friedrich Gallery on West Broadway in Soho. Too bad I didn't buy some of his artwork back then when it was comparably affordable. Another favorite artist, coming out of the East Village art scene of the 80's, would be Jean Michel Basquiat. His paintings sold for $5,000 recently one sold for 5.5 million $$$$. Wish I could get my time machine working.

9 Birds In Flight

9 Birds Watching the American Masters series four part documentary on Andy Warhol had me recalling meeting him one day. He was having a show in a galery near where I was living at the time. I stopped in and he was just inside the entrance signing copies of his Interview Magazine. If I can find the cover I will scan and post it. This Warhol homage will have to do for now. My cousins old Thunderbird. Wish I had a "factory" to run off a few 6' screen prints.

Living Large Or we could search the world for the perfect wave and live the Endless Summer. This was a funny assignment for the LI Voice; all about guys who were proud to be oversized.

The Disneyland Of Supermarkets

Daisy Duck Stu Leonard's was discribed to me as the Disneyland of supermarkets. This was at the Norwalk, Connecticut store where I was sent to take photos for a story by Marcelle S. Fischler titled Super Duper Markets. A slide show and the story are on the NY Times website. NY Times / In The Region

Cover Bands

At The Crazy Donkey
Kiss DollThese photos were taken for a NY Times story on cover bands. The band is Big Bang Baby. I've never seen a bar located right in front of the stage. Crowd interaction with the band was a little difficult with this watering hole / moat like setup. A Cover Band slide show is posted on the NY Times site. NY Times / In The Region Link is near the bottom of the page. You may have to register to view some of the content on the Times site.

My South Park Photo Studio

PhilippePhilippe

I made these characters up using an online site. To my surprise I was able to come up with something that actually resembles myself and some friends.

    Ali Pali Scouts

    Explorer Scouts & Judge Dredd
Dredd A group of explorer scouts with Judge Dredd, about to enter London's Alexandra Palace. This is in the Muswell Hill section of Northern London. I was staying with some friends nearby in the Crouch End section of town. Bottom photo of Judge Dredd was my Photoshop attempt to create some comic book style art.
